100 FAVORITE KISS SONGS
Another Kiss list? Do I ever listen to or talk about anything else? Do I wonder what they cook like naked? Well yes folks, I've arrived at another inevitable ranking on my "I have time on my hands" blog to bring you the 100 best songs I think that band that got famous for wearing make-up and being superheroes ever made.
In February I ranked every Kiss album from least sexy to most arousing and between that and my 100 Favorite Beatles Songs list I posted in August, I pretty much had the idea I'd do this sooner than later. I pretty regularly bump this band's stuffs and have had most all of these songs ingrained in me brain since I was in Jr. High so it really didn't take too much deliberation to get the order down. Also both mine and my girlfriends kids recently decided in unison that Kiss is now their favorite band so they've taken the place of "silly songs" in my car as far as what we always have to listen to now. I blame Scooby-Doo.
As I have previously mentioned, my personal Kiss tastes are off the norm, naturally. The Revenge-Carnival of Souls era is my favorite line-up, I like a whole lot of 80s Kiss, and most of the band's more popular songs that never disappear from their set list I do not have on here. I'm also far and away the most fond of Paul Stanley's material as will become very clear. He makes up well over half of this list as I knew he would. But I was honestly surprised that I had as many Gene songs as I did. I actually defend everyone's least favorite arrogant businessman who breathes fire, as he's an underrated bass player and has penned some excellent riffs and ballads throughout his career in his favorite band. But still, the Paul runs this here show. There's a reason nearly every single put out in the 80s was his and usually Desmond Child's as well.
There is more awesome in this picture than you can wave a 7 inch leather heel at. |
As I did with my every Kiss album ranking, I've counted stuff from the four solo albums. Mostly because I wanted to throw six songs from Paul Stanley in, but also because I've just always considered them Kiss albums. The logo is in the corner after all. Also, Kiss has long had a tradition of using ghost players for many a session on many a song so the solo albums which feature but one member of the band per track aren't that far removed from the norm. Each solo album makes an appearance here, (yes I like Peter's), and nearly every Kiss album sans two likewise do. Sadly Psycho Circus and Monster are not to be found, but those two albums need to go sit in the corner and think about what they did so I stand by it.
Much thanks to kissmonster.com for providing information on literally every single Kiss related song in history as I used said site much to double check my research. I've known the history of this band well enough to have written several encyclopedias by now, (or would that be Kissclopedias?), but as always, I wanna make sure my facts are straight nevertheless. I have some goofy Kiss tastes so expect LOTS of deep cuts and songs the band never bother to play live, most of their ballads, lots of Paul, and of course no "Shout It Out Loud" or "Rock and Roll All Nite". Though I can't hate the later of those too much as it provides the perfect opportunity for me to beat the crowd to get to my car a little early when they always close with it live. So now, onto a hundred of the songs that are way goddamn better...
